Shingen the Ruler

At the game menu, pick the second option from the second row. Then select the 1st option, choose 0000 and highlight "Yes" (first option). On controller 2, hold Left-Down + B and on controller 1, press A. If done right, the gold mines counter will increase to 100.

At the game menu, select "Mi", then "Enlist", select 1 and highlight "No". Now, on controller 2, hold Down + A and press A on controller 1. You should hear a faint sound confirming the entry. Now, while still holding the buttons on controller 2, hold at the same time Up + B + Start on controller 1. Release the controller 2 buttons and the word "Which" will appear. Release the controller 1 buttons and the numbers "01" will appear. The numbers are the same numbers of the countries in the game. Just select 01 to start with the default country and everything maximized.

Hold Select and Start, then reset the console. At the Hot-B logo, press the following buttons for the named effects. (Note: Most NES controllers will not let you press Left + Right at the same time; you will need a specially-modified one.)
