When playing a season or franchise, go to the schedule screen, then press X to get the list of games and start times. When you simulate games, it gives you the score. If one of the computer teams throws a shutout, you can simulate it again by pressing A. If there is another shutout, it will simulate it again and again, until both teams score.

While hitting, hold the R trigger button before the pitcher goes into the windup. The hitting cursor will come up later than the normal cursor, but when it does, it will be VERY BIG! The cursor shrinks to normal size as the pitch comes to the plate, but hitting with the huge cursor is still a lot easier.

Get someone on first or second base. Before the pitcher goes into his windup, try to advance the runner. The pitcher will throw the ball to the base you are trying to steal. You will now be in a run down. The fielder will chase you back to the bag. Then, as soon as your baserunner goes into the slide animation, press the buttons to advance to the next base. The player with the ball will freeze until you get to the base, then they will throw it to the next base you can steal. Here is a more easy way to explain it:
